March book

Hey kids.

I didn't do a very random pick for this month's book. I decided that we should go with one that keeps coming up but never gets picked. I think at least 2 of us have had this book on our lists at least once or twice.. or three or four times in Deanna's case.

So in March we are going to read The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls.

I think we all can agree, whether we got through the book or not, the last one was a little friggin' weird. Here's hoping that this next book we all will be able to stomach.

Someone always has to get picked last

This time it's Meredith. Sorry sweety.

I know there was a lot of excitement about the book choices so I went ahead and had the lottery. I will randomly choose one of Meredith's books when I get them and her book will be read in March.

But, until then we have all of these to read, and I am very excited about each one of them.

For those of you that are still interested in going to see The Timetraveler's Wife it comes out next week. I'll check movie times and stuff and try to set up a matinee.

We are at the end of our current book list and the time has come to pick new books. Here's how it worked out...

I made a list of all the entries you guys gave me... there were 22 possibilities. I decided that since there are six of us I'd pick for the next six months and each month would be a someones entry. I wrote all the books out on little pieces of paper and picked one book at random from a hat for each person. Then put those picks back in the hat and picked the order for the next six months.

In other news...
In case you haven't already heard; Cara and Kirsten are leaving the group. Cara is off to great adventures in China and hopefully Grad School. Kirsten is finding out that cooking school and working in a kitchen is a hectic and time consuming life to live. Hopefully both will do well in everything they do. They were great additions to the group and will be missed. They are welcome back at any time.

This months book is Four Letters of Love. The meeting place for this month will either be at Kristen's apartment or at my new apartment. We will let you know closer to the end of the month.

Hey y'all-
So I made a very low-tech calendar to show us the exciting upcoming reading schedule. I couldn't figure out how to make clickable links in a JPEG, so if anyone can educate me, holler!

I was thinking (and I think we mentioned at the last meeting) that it would be nice to line up books a few months out. I think it would definitely help us stick with books that get better reviews, are available in paperback, and maybe get some high-quality literature (not that we haven't thus far!)

Why don't you leave your picks in the comments, and I'll post a full list later? And Faezeh, feel free to give your other book club info about us, and Sarah, definitely clue in the drinking group. We're set for our July meeting, but we've got the rest of the year ahead.

We had a great meeting this week, and finally got to meet Faezeh! Welcome, and thanks for coming! I've got a guest blog to post (as soon as I send the questions to our last great author!) but for now, onward to the next books. We were talking about how we felt that we'd missed out on a lot of classics that we "should" have read in our youth, so this will be the first month of trying to catch up on a classic and read a contemporary book simultaneously. Sarah recommended Loser Goes First, a memoir of an awkward and eternally unsuccessful thirty-something who seems to miss every boat with aplomb. All My Sons, one of Henry Miller's more successful plays, follows the story of two families as the fathers get rich manufacturing faulty airplane parts during World War II. One goes to jail and the other remains free, and bitter conflict goes on to poison the next generation.
