New Month New Book/Movie

At yesterday's book meeting we threw around the idea of reading a book then watching the movie together. Atonement was the first book/movie thrown into the possiblity pile. So I did some research, a lot of research.

I found a library website that has a search catagory for books that have been turned into movies. Then I cross referenced the titles that caught my eye with the ever popular iMDB movie web site. Then I referenced those picks with Barnes & Noble website to check book availablility, pages, and prices. And finally I crossed checked one final time with my Blockbuster online account to find out how easy it would be rent chosen movies.

The List:

1. Accidental Tourist by Anne Taylor. Movie stars Gina Davis, William Hurt, Bill Pulman, Kathleen Turner. Gina Davis wone an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Plot: Man's son dies, wife walks out on him and he is froced to start over and falls in love with his dog walker. Romance/Drama. Book is 352 pages.

2.Life & Opinions of Tristram Shandy ESQ: Gentelmen by Lawrence Sterne. Movie: Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story, stars British actors. Plot: The story of Tristram Shandy's life since birth. Comedy. Book is 735 pages.

3. Animal Husbrandry by Laura Ziman. Movie: Someone Like you, stars Ashley Judd, Greg Kenner, and Hugh Jackman. Plot: Local talk show host know for bashing men for their 'typical' behaviors. Finds love in an unsuspected place and in an unsuspected person. Romantic Comedy. Book is a best seller, 304 pages.

4. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. Movie stars Alexis Bledel, William Hurt, and Sissy Spacek. Plot: A girl finds a family living in the woods near her home. She learn that his family has a pool of eternal life and anyone that drinks from it never ages and never dies. Family/Fantasy. Book is a youth novel, 144 pages.

5. Atonement by Ian McEwan. Movie stars James MacAvoy and Keira Knightly. Plot: A young girl accuses her older sister's love of a crime he did not commit thus forever changing every one's lives. Romance/Drama. Book is 480 pages.

I have to admit that I have read Tuck Everlasting, but it was in the 5th grade and as I recall it was a really good book. I would like for us to make a decision by Friday so that we have the most amount of time available to read since this month will be shortened due to pushing back the meeting date. I will also be able to host this next meeting/movie night.

Mandy, we are all looking forward to your return. I hope that you can participate in reading this month's book and attending movie night.

I LOVE Lawrence Sterne. LOVE HIM. Love Tristram Shandy (there were short stories that I read in some Brit Lit class in college). I know it's long, but I think it would be great fun. I might just get it from the lib and read it on my own if it's not right for the book club. Tuck Everlasting is really short, but good. I don't recall seeing good reviews on the movie, though. Atonement would be good. Accidental Tourist sounds good too! What does everyone else think?

My pick is Tuck Everlasting. Mostly because of time constraints. Our next meeting is in 2 weeks and I know I will not beable to finish Atonement in 2 Weeks. I also think that the subject in Tuck would for sure be a conversation starter. Lets pick today... I feel like we're running out of time.

I'm going to also vote for Tuck Everlasting bc of the page count ...unless we postpone the meeting to a later day.
